Optional support around the home

Door exit alerts
& monitored door sensors

A door exit alert can let our monitoring team know when a monitored door is opened during an agreed period. It adds another way to raise an alert without relying on someone remembering to press an alarm button.

This optional telecare sensor may be useful when unexpected leaving of the home is a concern, including as part of an individual support plan for someone living with dementia.

Existing TASK Connect customers: please quote your customer number. We need to check your alarm system and arrange any programming required to register the door sensor to your account. Do not assume it is ready to use simply because it has arrived.

From a door opening to an agreed response

How a door exit alert works

The current door contact sensor uses a magnetic contact and a wireless detection unit. Depending on the agreed setup, it can report door openings, openings and closures, a door left open or carer entry and exit. Our team configures the relevant mode and checks the alert reaches the correct receiving equipment.

The door contact is fitted to the door and frame. The alert settings are agreed around the person's routine and the support available.

1

The monitored door opens

The contact detects an opening. The setup determines when that opening should generate an alert, for example, during an agreed overnight period.

2

The telecare system sends an alert

A compatible sensor communicates with the registered telecare base unit, which passes the alert to the monitoring service.

3

The monitoring team responds

Our 24/7 team follows the response arrangements recorded for the customer. This may include contacting the person or their nominated family members, carers or keyholders.

The sensor identifies a door opening. It does not establish who opened the door, confirm that someone has left, or physically prevent a door from opening.

Carer visits and door-alert timings

Carer visits: with carer mode configured, carers can enter, close the door and press the button on the door contact to prevent the alert being sent. Each carer needs to know this procedure. If an alert comes through, they can explain to the operator that they are a carer, provided they are within speaking distance of the base unit. Alternatively, alerts can be set for agreed hours, such as overnight, so they are inactive during other periods. We will confirm the mode, timings and procedure for the supplied sensor.

The sensor detects the door opening rather than identifying who has opened it. A pendant or Vibby is optional: compatible door sensors can work with the home telecare base unit without a wearable alarm.

Door alerts for dementia support

A door sensor may offer additional reassurance where someone can become disorientated or leave home unexpectedly. It can raise an alert without needing the person to recognise a concern and press a pendant button.

The right setup depends on the individual. Discuss the person's routine, which door needs monitoring, when alerts would be useful and who can respond. Involve the person using the equipment wherever possible.

Door alerts support wider care and safety arrangements. They are not a complete safeguard or a replacement for personal care and supervision.

Questions about monitored door sensors

Is this a standalone door alarm?

This listing is for a door exit alert used with a compatible telecare system. A base unit and suitable monitoring arrangements are required for alerts to reach our team. Contact us if you do not already have a system.

Will it work with my existing telecare system?

Please check with us first. Compatibility depends on the sensor, base unit and monitoring service. Give us your customer number, or tell us the make and model if your system is supplied by another provider.

Can alerts be arranged for particular times?

We can discuss the available settings for your compatible system, including alerts during agreed periods. The configuration should reflect the person's routine and the response available.

Does a door sensor show someone's location?

No. A door contact reports an opening; it does not track the person's location outside the home. If outdoor location support is needed, ask us about our PIP and Go Watch GPS personal alarms.

Does the £90 price include a complete alarm system?

No. £90 including VAT is the one-off purchase price for the optional door exit alert. It does not include a telecare base unit or a new monitoring plan. Our team will confirm any fitting, delivery or service arrangements before you order.

Can I combine it with other telecare sensors?

Compatible equipment may be combined where appropriate. Our team can discuss inactivity monitoring, bed exit alerts and chair exit alerts and other options around the person's needs.
