The base unit includes a microphone and speaker so the monitoring operator can communicate with the alarm user following an activation.

How does the GSM connection work?
The base unit contains a multi-network mobile SIM. This allows the alarm to use the mobile network without needing your own mobile phone, broadband router or traditional telephone line.
The SIM can use supported mobile networks available in the area rather than being restricted to a single network provider.
Like any mobile-connected device, the alarm requires suitable cellular coverage at the property.
One personal alarm button is included. If a second person in the household also needs their own pendant, an additional button can be selected during the online order.
The GSM base unit has a built-in backup battery capable of providing up to approximately 36 hours of operation, including one 30-minute call. Because the alarm uses the mobile network rather than household broadband, it does not depend on your broadband router remaining powered. Mobile network service must still be available.
